Kathmandu- Two Additional Generals of Nepal Police have filed writ petitions at the Supreme Court (SC) against the government’s decision to appoint Dhiraj Pratap Singh as the Inspector General of Police (IGP) today.
Disgruntled AIG duo Bishwo Raj Pokharel and Sahakul Thapa lodged the writ petitions at the apex court demanding to scrap the government’s decision to appoint Singh as IGP.
The registration process of the writ petitions is underway, according to the apex court.
A cabinet meeting held on Sunday had appointed AIG Singh who was third in rank on the seniority. Earlier, the promotion recommendation committee of the Home Ministry had recommended AIG Pokharel for promotion.
The writ petition has been filed arguing that the government promoted Singh, who was the third in seniority, by violating the existing rules and system.
Giving justification for its decision to appoint AIG Singh, Home Secretary Tek Narayan Pandey said that seniority is not only the basis for the appointment of the IGP.
