Kathmandu- The National Examination Board (NEB) has made a new rule to seek reasons from teachers giving more than 80 marks to Secondary Education Examination (SEE) students.

NEB has given responsibility of SEE examination results to the schools themselves due to its failure to conduct examinations because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

A meeting of the NEB held on Sunday decided to seek reasons and basis from teachers for giving more than 80 marks to SEE students, according to Janga Bahadur Aryal, the spokesperson for the NEB. “Last year, schools misused the opportunity given to evaluate their students on their own,” he added.

This time, the NEB has made a provision to form a five-member evaluation committee in each school under the coordination of the school principal for the evaluation of SEE students.

For internal evaluation of practical subjects, of the 100 marks, 20 percent will be covered by attendance and presentation and 25 percent by practical examination. Likewise, for non-practical subjects, 20 percent of full marks will be covered by attendance and presentation and 75 percent by terminal examinations, according to the NEB.

NEB has already directed all the schools across the country to submit hard and soft copies of SEE students’ evaluation to the Education Development and Coordination Unit by July 4.
