Kathmnadu- Nepal Police on Sunday made public five Chinese hackers who were arrested for their involvement in hacking the ATM system in Kathmandu amid a press conference.
A team of Metropolitan Police Range led by DSP Habindra Bogati had arrested them on Saturday night and seized over Rs 12.60 million and over 10,000 USD from their possession.
Police arrested a Chinese national when he was withdrawing money using cards of Nabil Bank, from a hotel in Durbar Marga. The other four were arrested based on the statement of the Chinese withdrawing the money from the hotel they were staying at.
Those arrested are Lin Jianmeng, Luo Jialei, Zhu Liangang, Qiu Yungqing, Chen Bin Bin .
Meanwhile, the Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) has said that peoples’ accounts have not been pilfered.
NRB Spokesperson Laxmi Prapanna Niraula said that though some problems have arisen in the ATM system of some of the banks, the money has not been stolen.
According to Niraula, the money that the Chinese hackers withdrew was not from individual bank accounts.
